Past work - Concept sketches

Haven't posted anything for a while as some renovations to my house have kept me away from my computer of late but able to get back into things a bit more now..finally! Here are some 

of my old concept sketches from early 2010...seems such a long time ago now! They were for a brief/project for Tafe and were only to be taken as far as concept sketches and not finished pieces. I kinda like them both still so might start developing them a bit further.  

Jezebel

Could't resist posting this picture of an male Imperial Jezebel butterfly that I found in my backyard yesterday. I've seen these butterflies in my yard only a few times before. Apparently they are one of the first butterflies to appear in early spring.

Miniatures!

Its been I while since I've posted anything but I have been very busy of late!... so this is a little miniature I've been working on lately for a friend...

She is just over 4 inches tall and is made of wool felt. This is the second miniature that I've made..the first was a bunny in an anorak that I made last year as a Tafe project (see pics below) I hope to be making lots more of these soon :)  Here she is pictured with her friend. 

Sketchbook arrived!

This year I decided to participate in The Sketchbook Project

I heard about it last year and I thought it sounded fun but I never got my act together to order mine in time. This year I finally did which is a great because the exhibition is coming to Melbourne..yay :)

Work in progress

Lately I've been working on a business card design for my sister.

She designs and creates original pieces for her clothing range Stravaigrant. Her work is stunning and she's self taught! I really don't know how she does it as I have never had the patience for sewing and prefer to continue to waste paper with my scribbles. You can see some of her beautiful work here 

She thought she might like an Art Nouveau inspired piece much like the posters of Alphonse Mucha.

This is what I've come up with so far. It is just a concept sketch and there is more work to be done and also elements that I am not entirely happy with. But my sister likes it so far and it looks good scaled down to business card size.

 

Sketch

This is a really quick little sketch on a scrap of paper I did the other day as I was yet again waiting for some watercolour layers to dry.

Past work

I was giving my studio a quick tidy the other day and I came across some stuff I did last year so I thought  I might post some. Here's a couple of pieces...

This is a self portrait I did about this time last year. Just graphite on textured paper. I initially added a small amount of soft pastel to this piece but removed it later as I felt that it overpowered the graphite.

This is a quick 10 min sketch from life drawing class at school last year. The sketch was from a costume class which was always fun...this model was dressed as a pirate! I miss the life drawing and haven't had the time to find some more classes this year. I think I really need to improve my life drawing so had better find some classes soon.
